Class 7 MOT FAQs
What exactly is a Class 7 MOT?
Class 7 covers goods vehicles between 3,000kg and 3,500kg design gross weight — mostly larger panel vans, Lutons and box vans. It's a different, more thorough test than the Class 4 MOT lighter vans get, and not every garage is approved to carry it out. We are.
How do I know if my van is Class 4 or Class 7?
It comes down to the vehicle's design gross weight, not how it's loaded on the day. Pop your reg into the checker above and we'll confirm which class applies before you book.
Do you test Lutons and box vans too?
Yes — Luton bodies and box vans up to 3,500kg are tested the same way as a standard Class 7 panel van, at £50.
What about a heavy electric van?
Electric vans between 3.5 and 4.25 tonnes are tested at £58.60 — the extra battery weight means a longer brake and suspension check.

Our story
From stretch limousines to Class 7 & motorhome specialists
Redvers Services started in June 1997 — not as a garage, but as a stretch-limousine business in Duncan's Yard on Ermin Street, Swindon. We later moved to the Isis Trading Estate off Shrivenham Road, and as the limousine trade faded we found our calling in the vehicles we knew best: the big ones. We moved into motorhomes and larger vehicles, and in 2016 settled into our current home at Redvers Yard, behind 126 Ferndale Road.
Today we're an independent, family-run MOT & service centre for everything from cars and vans to the big vehicles many other garages simply can't fit in — Class 7 large vans, motorhomes, minibuses and horseboxes up to 5 tonnes — serving Swindon and the towns across Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Gloucestershire.
